White Balance is the process of removing unrealistic color casts, so that objects which appear white in person are rendered white in your photo. Proper camera white balance has to take into account the "colour temperature" of a light source, which refers to the relative warmth or coolness of white light.
Light is measured in kelvins and different times of the day mean it needs a different WB to make the picture more vibrant and sharp or the picture darker
It can totally change the outcome of a photo as sometimes it can totally ruin a photo making it grainy and dull whereas sometimes it can make the photo vibrant and full of life with vivid colours. It all depends where the sun is, the sun can make or break a photo especially when using white-balance.
The White balance setting you choose will change the colour balance in your pictures, making it warmer or cooler (as in the colours you have hot colours red yellow and orange you also have cold colours blue green and purple) depending on how the sort of light you're shooting in affects things. Using auto white balance is the simple option, but your camera's white balance presets give you more control over colour.
White balance is a very important setting on a camera but is under used by many people.

Depending on where you are and what white balance you are using it may change the colour of the pictures. To change the WB just press a button on your camera and it will have certain WB presets. (see picture above)
